Paul Wanner continues to draw attention at PSV Eindhoven. Recently, reports have been circulating that FC Bayern is seriously considering bringing back its former top prospect. However, according to information from BILD soccer editor Christian Falk, this is not the current situation.
According to Falk, while the Munich club still has the option to bring the 20-year-old back, no concrete move is currently planned. The main reason for this is the on-field situation at the German record champions.
Bayern currently considers itself very well-positioned at Wanner’s position. With Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise, coach Vincent Kompany has two absolute top players for the attacking midfield. There are also other versatile options in the squad.
This paints a similar picture to the recent situation with Florian Wirtz: Bayern values the player’s quality but currently sees no urgent on-field need for another attacking midfielder.
Wanner must prove himself at the highest level
Wanner left FC Bayern in the summer of 2025 and made a permanent move to PSV Eindhoven. However, as part of the deal, the Munich club secured options that would allow them to respond should their former youth player show strong development.
That does not automatically mean, however, that Bayern intends to exercise this option. According to Falk’s information, Wanner must first prove that he can consistently perform at the level required by a top European club.
The 20-year-old is already fully focused on his current challenge. According to Falk, Wanner’s focus is currently “100 percent” on PSV. His personal goal is to show that he can be the best player in his position in the Dutch Eredivisie.
If he succeeds in doing so, the number of interested clubs is likely to increase automatically. Wanner is already being linked with top international clubs.
Liverpool has Wanner on its radar
Liverpool FC, in particular, is reportedly keeping an eye on the former Bayern Munich prospect. According to Falk, there is general interest from several clubs, and there have been repeated discussions about Wanner’s future in the past.
However, there is no sign of an imminent transfer to a European powerhouse. The next step for the young attacking player is, for now, to continue his development in Eindhoven and consistently perform at a high level.
Bayern is also likely to continue monitoring this development closely. Thanks to the options agreed upon at the time of the sale, the Munich club is generally in a strong position should a return become a possibility again at some point.
At the moment, however, there is no concrete reason for this. Wanner wants to establish himself at PSV, while the record champions see no immediate need for action in his position. A return to Munich is thus an option for the future—but according to Falk, the situation at Säbener Straße isn’t particularly urgent right now.
