Harry Kane’s future remains one of the big topics at FC Bayern. The 33-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2027, and an extension has not yet been announced. It is precisely this situation that apparently continues to give FC Barcelona hope.
As reported by the English website talkSPORT, the Catalans and coach Hansi Flick have not yet given up on the idea of signing the Bayern striker. As long as Kane hasn’t signed a new contract in Munich, Barça is said to be closely monitoring the situation.
However, the Catalans apparently shouldn’t get their hopes up too much. talkSPORT also points out that the Englishman is still expected to extend his contract with the German record champions.
Kane himself feels at home in Munich. Talks with Bayern are already underway and have recently made progress. However, a final agreement has not yet been reached.
Kane Provides an Update on the Contract Standoff
The Munich club would have liked to settle Kane’s future early on. During the World Cup, however, the forward focused entirely on the English national team. Since the end of the tournament, talks have picked up again.
Kane himself recently confirmed that several rounds of talks have already taken place. “We had talks a few weeks ago and more this week. As I’ve already said, a contract doesn’t come together overnight—it takes time to digest everything and figure out how we can find the best possible solution for everyone involved.”
At the same time, the striker made it clear that no announcement is expected in the near future: “I don’t expect it to be finalized in the next week or two, but hopefully we’ll be where we want to be in the next month or two.”
So there’s certainly no question of an imminent departure. Kane emphasized: “All I can say right now is that the talks are going well. We’ll see what happens.”
Haaland and Álvarez as Alternatives to Kane
Nevertheless, Barcelona is apparently exploring various scenarios for the center-forward position. In addition to Kane, the club is also said to be monitoring Erling Haaland’s situation at Manchester City. However, a transfer for the Norwegian is also likely to be difficult to pull off.
The interest in Julián Álvarez is more concrete. The Atlético Madrid forward is reportedly even a top priority for the Catalans. According to the report, Barça had already wanted to sign the World Cup runner-up last summer, but Atlético refused to let him go.
In Spain, there is now speculation that Barcelona could make another bid for Álvarez as early as this winter.
