The transfer saga between FC Bayern and Florian Wirtz could pick up steam once again. In the summer of 2025, the Munich club had courted the German national team player intensively but ultimately had to concede defeat to Liverpool FC. About a year and a half later, a new opportunity could arise.
As TEAMtalk recently revealed, Bayern has by no means lost interest in the 23-year-old and continues to closely monitor his development at Anfield. Of particular interest: There are reportedly critical voices in Liverpool who doubt whether Wirtz can still live up to the enormous expectations following his 125-million-euro transfer.
Nevertheless, there is no talk of an imminent sale. Liverpool is reportedly not actively working to offload Wirtz at this time. Rather, there remains hope within the club that the German international will become a key figure under coach Andoni Iraola.
However, should Bayern make another bid, Liverpool would apparently at least be open to discussions.
Liverpool might be tempted by the right offer for Wirtz
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes that a sale would no longer be off-limits for Liverpool in principle. Speaking to Football Insider, he described the possibility of selling Wirtz if the right offer came along as “tempting.”
“Liverpool will definitely consider the possibility of recouping part of the transfer fee paid in the summer of 2025,” Brown explained.
This could open a door for Bayern that initially seemed closed following Wirtz’s decision to join the Premier League. According to Brown, however, a financially attractive offer would be a prerequisite.
Liverpool would therefore only consider a sale if the club could “significantly limit” its loss compared to the record transfer fee paid in 2025. It remains unclear what amount would be necessary for that.
For Bayern, Wirtz would thus remain an extremely costly transfer target. There are currently no concrete negotiations or even an offer from Munich.
Bayern has never lost sight of Wirtz
It comes as little surprise that the record champions are nevertheless closely monitoring the situation. Even before his move to Liverpool, Wirtz was considered Munich’s top transfer target.
His start in England was more difficult. In his first season with Liverpool, Wirtz scored seven goals and recorded nine assists in 48 competitive matches. Given the enormous transfer fee and the expectations that came with it, his debut season was not the breakthrough everyone had hoped for.
