Sacha Boey and FC Bayern—this past summer, there were strong indications that he would be leaving. The right back had long been considered a transfer target, but a move ultimately did not materialize. As a result, the Frenchman remains under contract with the Munich club and must now prove himself on the field once again.
Vincent Kompany spoke at length about the 25-year-old’s situation ahead of the Bundesliga match against SV Elversberg. The Bayern coach made it clear that Boey was kept openly informed about the club’s plans during the transfer window.
“What I’ve seen over the past two and a half years working with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund is that the club is clear and transparent, including in its dealings with the players,” Kompany explained.
The Belgian is also aware that such conversations aren’t always pleasant for the players involved. For him, however, this honesty is part of a trusting working relationship.
“It’s not always pleasant for the player, but you also earn a lot of respect from the players when you speak to them clearly and honestly.”

Now that the transfer window has closed, Boey’s situation has changed. A departure is off the table for the time being. Accordingly, the right back is to be fully reintegrated into the team.
“Now that the transfer window is over, Sacha has our full support,” Kompany clarified.
However, this doesn’t guarantee him playing time. Competition is particularly fierce on the right side of the defense at the German record champions. With Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer, Kompany has two other established options at his disposal.
“In that position alone, we have Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer, and the competition there is already fierce,” the Bayern coach emphasized.
For Boey, this means that if he wants to earn regular playing time again, he’ll have to make his case in training. Most recently, the Frenchman sat on the bench for the full 90 minutes during the 5-0 Champions League victory over Bodø/Glimt.

Kompany hasn’t written off his right back, however. On the contrary: The 40-year-old made it clear that the on-field hierarchy can change at any time.
“But in soccer, anything can happen if you have the right attitude,” Kompany explained, while also praising Boey’s current performance: “He’s training very well right now, and everything else will fall into place.”
This at least gives the Frenchman a chance to prove himself all over again. Just a few weeks ago, everything pointed to his time in Munich coming to an end. Now he’s once again a full-fledged member of the squad.
How long this situation will last remains to be seen. Sporting director Max Eberl had already stated after the Champions League match against Bodø/Glimt that Boey would remain with FC Bayern for now and that the club would reassess the situation in the winter.
Until then, it’s primarily up to the 25-year-old himself. Getting past Stanišić and Laimer is likely to be difficult. Kompany’s message is nevertheless clear: Anyone who shows the right attitude and performs well in training will get their chance at FC Bayern.
