Following the 5-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen commented on two key personnel matters. Discussions regarding the future are underway with both Harry Kane and sporting director Christoph Freund. While there is no new update yet on the Englishman’s situation, Dreesen is optimistic about Freund.
When asked about a possible contract extension for Harry Kane, Dreesen explained: “Not much has really changed since the last time. We’re in talks, so there’s no new update on that.”
However, the Bayern boss had clear words to say about the striker’s importance to the team. Kane had scored in the 5-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt and demonstrated his qualities.
“He showed once again today that he’s simply one of the top strikers in Europe and beyond. We’re rightfully in talks because we want him to stay with us longer,” Dreesen emphasized.
Kane’s current contract with the German record champions runs through 2027. Both sides had recently signaled publicly that they were, in principle, interested in an extension.
Dreesen Announces Solution for Freund
FC Bayern is also considering the future of Christoph Freund. Following the recent contract extensions for Dreesen and sporting director Max Eberl, the sporting director is now expected to follow suit.
“The supervisory board has always said that we first want to extend the contracts of the two board members whose contracts would have expired next year—namely Max and myself—and that we will, of course, speak with Christoph afterward,” Dreesen explained.
According to this, talks with Freund are already underway. Dreesen expressed optimism and held out the prospect of a decision soon: “That’s what we’re doing, and that’s why I’m very hopeful that we’ll resolve this outstanding issue in the near future.”
So while patience is still required in Kane’s case, there are many signs pointing to a soon-to-be-reached agreement with Freund. For the Munich club, this would mean another important personnel matter has been settled for the future.
