FC Bayern is currently awaiting Jamal Musiala’s return. The attacking player collapsed twice during preseason training and now hopes to return to the field soon. He is currently able to train at full capacity.
Nevertheless, he wasn’t yet in contention for the roster for the game in Osnabrück. Vincent Kompany mentioned ahead of the game that Musiala could be back in action this weekend against Schalke 04 if everything goes according to plan. Or perhaps next week, when Bayern faces Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League on Thursday.
Ahead of the match against the second-division side, sporting director Max Eberl spoke about Musiala’s current situation.
Eberl: Musiala’s comeback still up in the air
“The team has been aware of Jamal’s situation for a long time. We know this; it’s not a burden for the team. With him,the situation is this: after the two incidents, we wanted to allow some time for his seizures to subside. Once that happens, he can be back on the field right away. If Jamal gives the ‘go-ahead’ and the doctors do too, then Jamal will be back on the field very soon,” Eberl explained.
When asked about the fact that the new national team coach has already spoken with the player, Eberl said: “Jürgen has spoken with many players, including Jamal. And if he’s able to play, he’ll play a major role in German soccer. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for him. Soccer is what has always brought him joy, so we hope he can be back on the field as soon as possible.”
In other words: There’s no guarantee he’ll be ready for this weekend’s match at Schalke. We’ll just have to keep waiting and seeing how things develop and how the adjusted medication affects him. The fact that Musiala was able to complete training sessions without any restrictions is a first positive sign.
