FC Bayern has gotten off to a strong start to the new season. The record champions defeated VfB Stuttgart 5-1. But now, a medical diagnosis is casting a shadow over the good mood at FCB.
Bayern’s rising star, Maycon Cardozo, recently suffered a shoulder injury during a reserve team match. At first, it was unclear how serious the injury was.
The fact that an ambulance had to be called during the game to treat Cardozo, however, was not a good sign. The player himself has already spoken out, saying he’ll come back stronger.
Cardozo will be out for a long time
According toSky, Cardozo underwent a thorough examination yesterday, Monday, at Säbener Straße, and the diagnosis is now in. The offensive player, who once again impressed during preseason, has suffered a serious shoulder injury.
The Brazilian will have to undergo surgery, which will be followed by a long rehabilitation period. He is expected to be sidelined for about three months, which is definitely a shock for FC Bayern and for the young player as well.
Given the team’s thin roster and relatively limited depth on offense, Cardozo would certainly have been one of the young talents who could have earned a spot on FC Bayern’s roster this season. After all, there is no classic backup for Luis Diaz on offense.
If Cardozo’s recovery plan goes according to plan, he won’t be able to resume training until early December, and even then, he’ll still need time to regain the form he had before his injury. For that reason, he doesn’t seem to be an option for the first team at all before the winter break. This is far from ideal, as there would have been opportunities to use him. Tim Binder, with whom FC Bayern wants to extend his contract, can now look forward to playing time. He’ll soon be returning from a torn muscle fiber.
