Shortly before the final stretch of the 2025–26 season, Serge Gnabry suffered a severe muscle injury in his adductor region. The forward missed the World Cup, but has recently been making great progress. Now there’s an update.
It was already reported on Monday that Gnabry is making great progress. The FC Bayern player was able to complete a full team training session for the first time. Until recently, Bayern had been taking a cautious approach with Gnabry.
Although he had been training intensively in recent weeks, he avoided physical contact to minimize any risk. Now, however, a comeback is drawing ever closer.
Kompany Discusses Gnabry’s Timeline
At the press conference ahead of Bayern’s match against VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday, coach Vincent Kompany discussed the exact timeline for Gnabry’s return. The offensive player, who was performing at a high level until his injury last season, will not yet be available for the game in Osnabrück.

“We need to talk to Serge now and decide this together. He might be available this weekend—we’ll have to see. What I can say is that he’ll make his comeback in the next seven to ten days; we’ll decide on the exact timing.”
This weekend, Bayern faces FC Schalke 04; next Thursday, they’ll play their first UEFA Champions League match against Bodø/Glimt, followed by a Bundesliga clash against SV Elversberg. By then at the latest, if everything goes according to plan, Gnabry should be back in the lineup.
The national team player’s return would certainly give Bayern new options on offense. Gnabry can play in the center, but he can also be deployed as a center forward or, if necessary, on the wing as he used to. This is particularly important given the uncertainty surrounding Jamal Musiala.
