FC Bayern wraps up the 2026 summer transfer window with three new signings for the first team. At first glance, that may not sound like much, but a former manager of the record-holding champions believes these were strategically sound decisions.
Ismael Saibari came from PSV Eindhoven, Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye was signed permanently following his loan stint. Bayern spent just over 100 million euros but also generated revenue from player sales,
Some experts view the squad’s composition as somewhat risky because it’s quite thin overall. While there is a dual lineup for each position, some players can cover multiple positions.
Reschke thinks the Bayern squad is well-positioned
If former Bayern manager Michael Reschke is to be believed, Bayern has done its homework—especially when it comes to the squad’s long-term viability. In an interview with the Abendzeitung, he praised his former club.
First, Reschke praised Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl: “If I look purely at Max’s track record, what I see is a top-tier team that plays thrilling soccer. To achieve this, he signed one of the best coaches in the world—a man you simply have to admire and who is a godsend for FC Bayern. Overall, his transfer policy is well-thought-out.”
Reschke then gave his assessment of the squad structure: “The squad is very well thought out in terms of planning and is at the top European level. There’s a lot that I really like.”
Reschke also explained his reasoning and doesn’t see the relatively thin squad as a disadvantage at all. “Currently, the squad consists of three goalkeepers and 23 field players. Only four of those players are over 30 years old, and those four—Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and Harry Kane—are top-tier players. At the same time, the squad’s size is such that the guys from the youth academy get a chance,” said Reschke.
