Somewhat surprisingly, Wisdom Mike is leaving FC Bayern for Belgium. The young offensive talent is joining Club Brugge; the transfer was only finalized in the past few days. And this despite the fact that he was considered a promising player.
FC Bayern will receive a fixed fee of five million euros for the player and has also secured a share of any future transfer proceeds. Bonus payments are also included, and even a buyback option has not been ruled out.
According to Sky, there has not yet been any final confirmation from its own sources regarding this. But one question is intriguing: Why is the record champion letting the young offensive player go at all?
FC Bayern: Not convinced by Mike?
Especially before his injury—which sidelined him completely for more than three months—the youngster was given the chance to get a taste of the first team and rack up appearances from time to time. But the long layoff certainly had an impact.
Other players, including Maycon Cardozo, have managed to make a name for themselves. A months-long absence in the middle of a player’s developmental phase can be a major setback, especially for attacking players.
As Sky revealed in its Transfer Update, this is exactly the situation at FC Bayern with regard to Mike. Other players have taken a step forward, while he had already been stagnating somewhat even before the injury. It’s said that the club in Munich isn’t 100 percent convinced that Mike can still make the big leap and become a player of the caliber expected by the record champions.
However, since a breakthrough can’t be ruled out, Bayern had those clauses written into his contract. After all, especially in the attacking Belgian league—where young players are often given opportunities to develop—a very good season could be enough to significantly boost Mike’s stock again.
