On Tuesday evening, the FC Bayern supervisory board met and made a decision regarding the future of Jan-Christian Dreesen and Max Eberl—and it was a positive one. Both extended their contracts early, through 2029. This made Eberl, in particular, very happy.
It had already been reported that things were looking very positive for both Dreesen and Eberl regarding contract extensions. Since the extensions were officially announced on Tuesday, discussions had likely already taken place beforehand.
Bayern can now at least plan for the medium-term future. Sporting director Christoph Freund could also extend his contract, but that will be a matter for Eberl and his team to decide.
Eberl calls it a matter close to his heart
It’s particularly evident that Eberl had been eagerly awaiting a contract extension. He expressed his positive and delighted feelings following the extension.
“FC Bayern has been a labor of love for me ever since my time in the youth system. Just like my colleagues on the executive board, it is therefore important to me to continue on the path we’ve set out on and to continue doing everything I can to ensure sporting success for the entire FC Bayern family. The Supervisory Board’s confidence is a valuable sign, and I’m very pleased about it,” said Eberl.
In particular, the swift handling of summer signings was viewed positively within the club. Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown were signed early on, and both transfers were largely finalized before the start of the World Cup. In addition, Eberl has succeeded in selling players who were slated to leave the club.
Currently, the sporting director is working on offloading Bryan Zaragoza and Joao Palhinha as well. There is even still hope regarding Sacha Boey. Partly because he has been communicating more and more internally and his relationship with Bayern chairman Uli Hoeneß, among others, has improved, the contract extension was ultimately just a formality.
