The new season kicked off for FC Bayern with their first competitive match in the Super Cup. The 2-1 win over BVB was a positive start. However, there’s already the first report of an injured player.
This is definitely something FC Bayern is keeping a close eye on. Last season, the record champions dealt with numerous injuries, which they are determined to avoid this year.
Now, a top prospect who had been making a name for himself during preseason has been sidelined. We’re talking about 19-year-old offensive player Tim Binder. He would have had a good chance of making the senior squad for the Super Cup, but he was absent yesterday.
Binder will be out for several weeks
It’s now clear why he wasn’t there. According to FC Bayern, Binder has suffered a torn muscle fiber and will have to sit out for weeks.
Binder suffered the tear in the back of his right thigh. How long he’ll be sidelined depends on the severity of the injury, but a recovery period of two to four weeks is realistic.
In the preseason games in which Binder played, the young player looked very fresh and agile. He took a lot of risks, went for dribbles, repeatedly tried to force opponents into one-on-one situations, and showcased his own qualities in those scenarios.
His future in Munich is uncertain, but his performances in preseason have drawn attention to him. It’s quite possible that Binder will train with the pros more often and may even get a chance to play for the first team at some point. Otherwise, he’ll need to continue making a case for himself and, after his injury, return to the level of play he had previously reached.
That would be important not only for a potential future with Bayern, but also to make himself a candidate for any other options that might arise.
