Following his two collapses within a few days, Jamal Musiala will miss FC Bayern’s Super Cup match against Borussia Dortmund. The 23-year-old is not even expected to be named to the German record champions’ roster on Saturday.
As reported by the tz, Musiala will not be named to the roster for the first official match of the new season in Dortmund. This is Munich’s response to the concerning incidents of the past few days.
Musiala initially collapsed without any external cause during the Telekom Cup match against RB Leipzig. Just a few days later, the situation repeated itself in the friendly against 1. FC Heidenheim. There, the star forward had only been substituted into the game in the 61st minute and had to leave the field again shortly thereafter.
Musiala has since publicly revealed that he has been diagnosed with “temporary, brief episodes of absence that are easily treatable.”
Bayern will sit Musiala out of the match against BVB
While Musiala had recently emphasized that he was undergoing medical treatment and would continue playing with a doctor’s clearance, Bayern is now apparently taking action for the Super Cup.
Kompany will have to do without his star forward in Saturday’s match against Borussia Dortmund. It is currently unclear when Musiala will be able to play again for the record champions.
BILD also reports that Musiala will not be in the squad for Saturday’s match against Dortmund but should be back for next week’s Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart. Musiala’s doctors have expressly advised him to continue playing soccer, as a normal daily routine—which for him includes playing soccer—is part of his recovery process.
Musiala has the team’s full support
During this difficult time, Musiala can count on the support of those around him. There is also a great deal of sympathy within the team.
Alphonso Davies said on Thursday: “These two incidents have broken my heart.” He added that the team can help Musiala most of all by giving him “positive energy.” Uli Hoeneß also recently made it clear that there is “unconditional support for Jamal” at FC Bayern.
On the field, however, Musiala’s absence is a setback for Vincent Kompany. The 23-year-old could have played a key role on offense, especially against BVB. Following the recent events, though, the focus is not on the Bayern star’s athletic performance.
