Harry Kane didn’t return to Munich until late last week after his extended World Cup break and completed his fitness tests. His preparation time for Saturday’s Super Cup against BVB is very short, so the extent of his involvement remains uncertain.
The priority for FC Bayern is for Kane to be ready to take the field six days later, when the Bundesliga kicks off on August 28. On that day, the record champions will face VfB Stuttgart.
As part of Monday’s Allianz Team Day—an event at the Bayern Campus where, among other things, the men’s first team was presented to the fans—Kane trained fully with the team for the first time.
Kane Talks About His Super Cup Appearance
The Englishman appeared visibly refreshed and recharged. After training, he spoke not only about a new contract but also about Saturday’s Super Cup at Signal Iduna Park. And if Kane has his way, he’ll be in the lineup right away.
When asked about his chances of playing, Kane said: “That’s not certain. I’ve already spoken to the coach about it. It’s only been a week of preseason, but I’m used to this quick transition.”
He continued: “I’ve played in tournaments like this almost every year of my career. We’ll have to wait and see. Whether it’s 90 minutes or 45 depends on how I feel this week.”
Tuesday’s friendly against 1. FC Heidenheim is likely to come too soon for Kane—as well as for Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano—after just one full training session. However, it should serve as a tough test for the other players who joined preseason training late.
In Kane’s case, the coming days of training will now reveal to what extent he’s ready for the Super Cup. Since the first title of the season is at stake, his motivation to be part of the action should certainly be high.
