Lena Oberdorf’s ordeal may slowly be coming to an end. The Bayern midfielder continues to work toward her comeback following her cruciate ligament tear and is back in team training.
Bayern coach José Barcala is closely monitoring his midfielder’s progress and is impressed with her current condition.
“It’s impressive how she’s developing. She’s making very good progress and working hard every day to come back,” the Bayern coach told SID.
However, the Super Cup is still too soon for the German national team player. On Saturday, August 15, FC Bayern will face the runners-up from Wolfsburg.
„Hopefully we can start giving her playing time in two weeks,“ Barcala explained, adding, „She’s developing really well.“
A versatile option in midfield
In October 2025, Oberdorf had already suffered her second cruciate ligament tear in her right knee. Following Georgina Stanway’s departure, Oberdorf is expected to provide a versatile option in midfield.
Her coach was enthusiastic about the 24-year-old’s abilities: “She’s a box-to-box player who also pushes into the final third. And when she gets into the final third, she knows what to do.”
Barcala also praised Oberdorf’s “good timing; she has good running patterns, is clinical, and very powerful—and she’ll open up a lot of possibilities for our game. She can play as a defensive midfielder, but she can also operate in the spaces between the lines because she understands both roles very well.”
The Bayern coach’s comments suggest an imminent return for Oberdorf and underscore the importance the midfielder continues to hold for the team.
