To arrange a transfer, FC Bayern organized a secret meeting on Säbener Straße. Max Eberl and Vincent Kompany worked hard to convince him.
FC Bayern apparently went all out to sign Nathaniel Brown. The left back moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to the German record champions this summer and signed a long-term contract in Munich running through 2031. However, the transfer involved significantly more persuasion than previously known.
According to information from Sport BILD, Bayern organized a secret meeting with Brown at Säbener Straße as early as May. The now-Bayern pro was reportedly brought onto the club grounds by the Munich officials under strict secrecy.
To ensure the meeting went as unnoticed as possible, Brown is said to have been driven through a back entrance directly into the underground parking garage on Säbener Straße. There, two of the club’s most important decision-makers—sporting director Max Eberl and head coach Vincent Kompany—were waiting for him.
Eberl and Kompany personally convinced Brown
During the face-to-face meeting, Eberl and Kompany apparently presented the left-back with a detailed overview of their vision and FC Bayern’s sporting plan. The secret operation paid off: According to information from Sport BILD, Brown was subsequently convinced to make the move to Munich and clearly expressed his preference for FC Bayern.
For Eberl in particular, signing the national team player was a key transfer. In the past, the sporting director had faced internal criticism, among other things, for pushing through transfer decisions too quickly at times and without sufficiently involving other decision-makers.
This summer, Eberl apparently took a deliberately different approach. According to Sport BILD, the supervisory board was informed at an early stage about the respective steps in both Brown’s transfer and the signing of Ismael Saibari. Eberl also regularly sought input from supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Brown Transfer a Success for Eberl
The pursuit of Brown was also closely monitored internally. The left-back had been on FC Bayern’s radar for quite some time and, at the latest with his appearances for the German national team, had become a highly sought-after player on the transfer market.
This made it all the more important for the Munich club to convince the player to make the move early on. In doing so, the record champions did not rely solely on financial incentives. Through the in-person meeting and Kompany’s involvement, Bayern was apparently able to present Brown with a concrete athletic outlook.
The transfer was ultimately finalized as early as June. In doing so, the club’s leadership also avoided having to search for a solution for a key position until the very end of the transfer window yet again.
For Eberl, the Brown deal is also a success internally. According to information from Sport BILD, Bayern’s executives view his handling of this transfer positively. The secret meeting at Säbener Straße now shows just how intensively the Munich club had been courting Brown from the very beginning.
