Said El Mala is at the top of BVB’s wish list, but negotiations with 1. FC Köln have stalled. Bayern fans are now hoping for a move from FCB.
The transfer saga surrounding Said El Mala is shaping up to be one of the most exciting stories of the summer. Borussia Dortmund is working intensively to sign the talented German forward, but has so far been unable to reach an agreement with 1. FC Köln. RB Leipzig is also interested in the 19-year-old. And then there’s FC Bayern.
The Munich club had also been considered a suitor for El Mala for quite some time. This fit with the record champion’s original transfer plans: Sporting Director Max Eberl recently confirmed that Bayern had actually been looking to strengthen its left attacking flank.
In the end, however, the club’s leadership opted for Ismael Saibari. While the Moroccan also brings offensive qualities and great flexibility to the table, his profile is better suited to a central role. He is not a classic left winger.
That is precisely why, from Bayern’s perspective, El Mala remains an interesting player in principle. The transfer is also currently the subject of intense discussion among fans. On social media, Bayern fans are already calling on the record champions to take advantage of the stalled negotiations between Dortmund and Cologne and re-enter the race for El Mala.
El Mala is generally of interest to Bayern
However, such a move is currently rather unlikely. Following the changes made so far, club officials are generally satisfied with the composition of the roster. After signing Nathaniel Brown and Saibari, the focus is clearly on outgoing players for now.
In particular, Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza are expected to leave the club. The three players no longer play a key role in the plans for the upcoming season and could simultaneously bring in important transfer revenue for FC Bayern.
Should Munich generate revenue in the range of around 50 million euros from these sales in the coming weeks, the situation could change—at least once more. 1. FC Köln’s asking price for El Mala falls precisely within this range.

The situation is particularly interesting because Borussia Dortmund has not yet been able to close the deal. BVB is very interested in El Mala, but Cologne is sticking to its high financial demands. RB Leipzig could also enter the fray.
For FC Bayern, on the other hand, there is currently no urgent need to act. The roster is largely set, which is why a multi-million transfer for El Mala is not expected at this time.
That said, El Mala is not entirely uninteresting to Bayern. The attacking player is considered one of Germany’s greatest talents, and given his age and profile, he would generally fit into Munich’s long-term roster strategy.
Nevertheless, the hopes of many Bayern fans for a late entry into the transfer poker game are likely to remain unfulfilled for the time being. As things stand, it seems more likely that FC Bayern will start the season with its existing roster.
