FC Bayern is in the midst of preseason training, but not all players have completed their performance evaluations yet. Three players from the record-holding champions, who were away at the World Cup for an extended period, have now been granted special leave.
This is according to a report in BILD . The players in question are Harry Kane, Dayot Upamecano, and Michael Olise—precisely the players who were still in action during the third-place match at the 2026 World Cup. All three players are also coming off a long and challenging season.
They are not expected to return to training until the end of the week and will not be available for the Telekom Cup match against Leipzig this coming Saturday.
FC Bayern: Three Stars Join Training Late
So far in preseason, Bayern’s roster has been a mix of pros and many youth players. It wasn’t until the Asia tour that many World Cup stars rejoined the team, including German national team players such as Joshua Kimmich and Jonathan Tah.
However, there will still be some new faces in training over the next few days. Ismael Saibari has recovered from his injury and is expected to start training very soon. Things are also looking good for Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies. This week’s training sessions will determine which of them are options for the Leipzig game.
For Olise, Kane, and Upamecano, the goal is to be ready for the Bundesliga opener. FC Bayern kicks off the season on August 28 at home against VfB Stuttgart. Six days earlier, in the Super Cup, it’s unlikely that the three stars will be in the starting lineup. They’re more likely to come off the bench in that match.
Compared to the rest of the season, the Super Cup isn’t the top priority for the record champions, either. The focus is more on having a team that’s fit and well-rested. So a few extra days of vacation aren’t a big deal.
