For Jürgen Klopp, one thing is certain: The 24-year-old’s strengths lie in the center—and that is precisely why the designated German national team coach posed a remarkable question to FC Bayern.
While Michael Olise primarily played on the right wing for FC Bayern last season, he frequently filled the central attacking role for France during the World Cup. There, the left-footed player impressed as a creative playmaker and set up seven goals—more than any player has ever done at a World Cup.
Jürgen Klopp was also impressed by the Bayern pro’s performances.
Appearing as an expert on MagentaTV, the 59-year-old discussed Olise’s development and hinted that the Frenchman might have different expectations for his position in the future. “I’m curious to see who at Bayern will tell Olise that he’s playing on the wing again,” Klopp said with a smile.
The incoming German national team coach was particularly impressed by Olise’s playmaking at the World Cup. “The passes Olise made to Kylian Mbappé,” Klopp praised, underscoring just how much the attacking player’s performances in the center had impressed him.

Before the Bayern veteran could finish his thought, Klopp interrupted him with a laugh, saying, “Oops.” Müller repeated the word with a grin but then decided not to finish his sentence.
The discussion about Olise’s preferred position is likely to keep FC Bayern busy in the coming weeks anyway. Most recently, *kicker* reported that the Frenchman sees himself playing in the number 10 position more often in the future. With Jamal Musiala and summer signing Ismael Saibari, however, Vincent Kompany already has top-class alternatives at that position.
