João Palhinha is one of the players expected to leave FC Bayern this summer. The Portuguese player currently has several options, but no decision has been made yet. He has now spoken out about the rumors himself.
Last season, Palhinha was on loan from FC Bayern to Tottenham Hotspur. He put in some very good performances there, but in the end, he was not signed permanently.
This was mainly because Tottenham had set their sights on other targets and ultimately signed them instead. The once-hot rumor linking him to Sporting has cooled off, while Milan and Juventus have shown interest, though they aren’t actively pursuing him.
Palhinha Talks About His Own Future
Benfica’s interest is currently on the table. The Portuguese club wants to sign the midfielder and is in talks with FC Bayern. The same goes for Aston Villa, which is looking for a replacement for the long-term injured Amadou Onana.
Most recently, it was even reported that a move to England looks very likely.
But is that really the case? CNN Portugal “caught” Palhinha as he was departing for Munich, where preseason training for the new season begins on Monday.
And since FC Bayern has not yet reached an agreement with any interested clubs, the fitness assessment is a mandatory step for the player who did not participate in the World Cup.
Speaking to CNN Portugal, Palhinha commented on his future: “Now I’m returning to FC Bayern. There was a lot of speculation, but I’m currently a player for FC Bayern.”
He was then asked specifically about Benfica’s interest. “We’ll see. I don’t want to comment on that right now,” he replied. Marco Silva, Palhinha’s former coach during his time at Fulham, is currently the head coach at Benfica. According to consistent reports, Silva in particular wants to try to lure the Bayern player to Portugal.
