In the past, FC Bayern has shown interest in numerous players, and several transfers could have happened. This was also the case with Antony, who now plays for Real Betis. The Brazilian has now spoken about turning down Bayern.
When rumors began circulating about Antony moving to the record champions, he was still under contract with Manchester United but had just returned from a successful loan stint in Spain.
That’s why Bayern took notice of him and set their sights on him. That was in the summer of 2025. In the end, however, the attacking player decided to return to Spain. And he has now explained why.
Antony Talks About Turning Down Bayern
When asked about Bayern’s interest, Antony said in an interview with BILD: “That was, of course, a great honor. I have great respect for Bayern Munich and also for Vincent Kompany. He’s a coach I hold in very high regard. When a club like Bayern shows interest and the coach calls you personally, that means a lot to a player.”
However, I ultimately decided to join Betis—and for good reason. “That was a decision I made together with my family. I was going through a difficult phase in my life at the time and needed a place where I could be happy again—not just as a soccer player, but also as a person. I felt that Betis was exactly the right club for me. That’s why I don’t regret this decision at all,” the Brazilian explained.
In total, he has now played 49 times in La Liga. Antony has scored 13 goals and set up eight more. Here, he can play freely and doesn’t face the same intense pressure as he did at Manchester United, where his stats (62 league games, five goals, three assists) were far from ideal.
