Raphael Guerreiro’s contract with FC Bayern expired this summer, which is why the Portuguese player is currently looking for a new club. Now, a top club is entering the race to sign the versatile player.
Guerreiro has consistently played a solid role at Bayern since joining the record champions on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund. He could be deployed as a left back, in central midfield, and even on the offensive wing.
His versatility made him an important option for FCB, and when he was fit and in top form, he performed at a very high level.
Guerreiro: Milan Joins the Bidding War
Recently, however, things have quieted down around the now-free agent. At first, Bayer 04 Leverkusen had set their sights on him as a replacement for Alejandro Grimaldo, who moved to Atlético, but that lead has since cooled off significantly.
Now, however, a new option appears to be emerging. According to Tuttosport, Milan is reportedly interested in Guerreiro. The left-footed player could replace Pervis Estupinan, who is set to move to the English Premier League, the report says.
Milan is known for its preference for signing experienced players, and the former Bayern star would fit well into that strategy. On top of that, Guerreiro wasn’t earning a particularly high salary in Munich. Given that Milan missed out on the Champions League, a free transfer would make perfect sense.
A final decision has not yet been made, as Milan continues to explore the market, but there is reportedly at least an intention to look more closely into the possibility.
Guerreiro made a total of 95 appearances for FC Bayern. During that time, the now 32-year-old scored 14 goals and set up eight more.
