Jules Koundé has recently been linked with FC Bayern. Now there is new information regarding the French national team player’s future.
The rumors surrounding Jules Koundé and FC Bayern show no signs of abating. Time and again, the French national team player has been touted as a potential candidate to bolster the record champions’ defense. However, according to BILD soccer editor Christian Falk, the situation is now clear: Koundé has no plans to leave FC Barcelona.
“Jules Koundé wants to stay at Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window,” he explained.
This means a move to Säbener Straße this summer is unlikely for the time being. While Bayern continues to monitor the defender, no concrete efforts are expected at this time.
Koundé is on Bayern’s radar
As Falk explains, the 27-year-old is generally held in high regard at FC Bayern. Should the opportunity arise, the Munich club would certainly consider signing him. At the moment, however, several factors argue against a transfer.
“As I’ve already mentioned, FC Bayern Munich is interested in the player but won’t sign him at this time because there’s no room for him on the roster,” said Falk.
In addition to the on-field situation, financial considerations also play a role. Following the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, club officials must first generate revenue before any further major transfers become possible.
Falk’s conclusion: “He’s on a list—a long list—but FC Bayern must first sell players. Sacha Boey is one of the players who needs to be let go.”
This means Koundé remains a player Bayern will continue to monitor. As things stand, however, all signs point to the Frenchman continuing to wear the FC Barcelona jersey beyond this summer, with Munich set to continue its defensive planning with its current roster for the time being.
