For Jamal Musiala, the World Cup ended sooner than he had hoped. The FC Bayern attacking star is now using the unexpected end to the tournament to undergo a medical procedure—and is even foregoing his summer vacation to do so.
The World Cup exit in the round of 32 against Paraguay was a bitter setback for Jamal Musiala. The 23-year-old came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, breathed new life into Germany’s offense, and confidently converted his penalty kick to tie the score at 2-2. In the end, however, the German national team was eliminated.
As reported by BILD, the Bayern star took action immediately after the tournament—though not of a sporting nature, but rather a medical one.
Metal plate removed from his left foot
According to the report, Musiala underwent surgery last Thursday at the Murnau Trauma Clinic. In consultation with the FC Bayern team doctors led by Dr. Jochen Hahne and coach Vincent Kompany, the metal plate was removed from his left foot.
The plate had been inserted following his serious injury in the summer of 2025. At that time, Musiala had suffered a fibula fracture and severe ankle injuries following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Club World Cup and had also undergone surgery in Murnau.

Germany’s early exit from the World Cup gave the national team player the opportunity to move up the surgery, which had originally been scheduled. Had Germany advanced further in the tournament, the surgery would likely have jeopardized part of his summer training with FC Bayern.
Musiala has therefore deliberately decided to forgo his vacation. Instead, the attacking player will begin his individual rehabilitation program this Monday so that he can be back in full swing in time for the start of training on July 20.
With the removal of the metal plate, this chapter of his injury history is now set to be closed once and for all. Following the disappointing World Cup, Musiala wants to hit the ground running again—both at FC Bayern and on the national team.
