Joao Palhinha’s loan from FC Bayern to Tottenham has officially ended. The Portuguese player is now back with the record champions. He has since bid an emotional farewell to the Spurs.
Bayern Munich, which is looking to offload several players—including Palhinha—had actually hoped that the Spurs would be willing to sign him permanently. However, Tottenham did not exercise the buyout clause, and the renegotiations that were initially hinted at never took place.
This is also due to the fact that the Spurs have signed Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali is also moving to North London. Consequently, there would have been an oversupply of midfielders had Palhinha stayed.
Palhinha bids farewell to Tottenham
In an Instagram post, Palhinha has now said goodbye to the Spurs. “I’m writing this message from the bottom of my heart to thank you for all the kindness and support you’ve always shown me throughout my time at this special club,” the midfielder began his emotional message.

His words alone make it clear that the player had a special connection to the Spurs. “Playing for Tottenham has had a profound impact on my life—not only professionally, but also personally—and I will carry that with me in my heart forever. I’ve always tried to reciprocate, as best I could, all the affection, respect, and trust you’ve shown me both on and off the field,” he continued.
“With the utmost respect and gratitude, I bid farewell to all of you,” he concluded his statement. Palhinha scored a few key goals, particularly in the final stretch of the season, and thus managed to make a name for himself. His leadership qualities also played a role in the team’s ultimate success in avoiding relegation.
Bayern no longer has plans for the Portuguese player. Instead, the record champions will try to sell him as soon as possible. Currently, a return to Sporting seems to be the most realistic option.
