FC Bayern is keeping an eye on the transfer market and, accordingly, on many top-tier players. Felix Nmecha of BVB is one of those players. However, a potential transfer to Munich seems increasingly unlikely.
The fact that the record champions are keeping an eye on the national team player is nothing new. Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, has even publicly expressed their interest.
However, this is not an unusual occurrence and does not necessarily indicate an intention to make an offer. And that is precisely a very interesting and crucial point.
At the moment, FC Bayern has no plans to make a move for Nmecha. Rather, they view him as an interesting opportunity on the market—precisely because the star midfielder has an exit clause starting in 2027.
English clubs are putting pressure on Nmecha
So while Bayern waits to see how the current situation unfolds, there are several teams in England that are considering making a move as early as this summer.
BILD reports that Newcastle United—the team of Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw—has now entered the fray. This comes as no surprise, given that Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle’s two star midfielders, are highly sought-after on the transfer market.
And TEAMTalk reports that Manchester United and Chelsea FC, in particular, are said to be applying pressure. However, BVB is definitely demanding a transfer fee in the hundreds of millions this summer. This would rule out Bayern Munich anyway, as they are closing out two other major deals with Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari.
The English clubs could very well be in a position to test Dortmund’s management—especially if multiple teams enter the bidding war and perhaps start outbidding each other. Despite the massive interest, however, there is no nervousness whatsoever at BVB.
On the contrary! It’s assumed that Nmecha will stay beyond this summer, which is why the player extended his contract. What happens if the buyout clause is triggered, however, is another matter entirely.
