It’s been a good year since Jamal Musiala suffered a lower-leg fracture during the Club World Cup match against PSG and was sidelined for a long time. To this day, he hasn’t returned to his absolute best form. Nevertheless, he’s now shared some interesting insights into that difficult period.
Musiala was unable to play for more than half a year, after which he was able to slowly increase his workload again. The attacking player has already shown flashes of his quality, though he has lacked consistency.
Overall, it was a difficult year for the dribbling maestro, especially since he suffered a few more muscle injuries after his recovery, which set him back again.
Musiala talks about a special learning experience
Mentally, in particular, it hasn’t been easy to fight his way back. Since his return, Musiala has also frequently had to field questions about his health and his long rehabilitation.
The player is currently in North America with the German national team, competing in the World Cup.
In an interview with BILD, he was once again asked about his serious injury. “I know that’s just part of being a soccer player. The road back involved a lot of hard work and patience: It was exhausting at times, but I’m convinced that even if it isn’t always easy, you have to focus on the positive—even if that’s sometimes hard to do,” Musiala explained.

It was important to him that this time out due to injury also served as a learning experience. “I’ve definitely learned the most this year. Not just in terms of soccer—I’ve also grown as a person. I now know that to come back from a serious injury like the one I experienced, you need patience. The step you take afterward is all the greater for it,“ Musiala continued.
In the German national team’s first match against Curaçao (7–1), Musiala immediately rewarded himself with a goal. But that’s just the beginning for him.
