FC Bayern is committed to making a difference off the soccer field as well. This is now taking place as part of a pilot project officially announced by the record-holding champion.
FC Bayern is part of the new initiative “Justice and Sports—Consistently Against Hate,” which was launched by the Bavarian State Office for New Media (BLM) and the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice, according to a statement.
The goal of the pilot project is to work together with Bavarian sports clubs and associations to consistently combat criminal hate in sports—with a focus on the digital space.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for insults to be hurled repeatedly, for example on social media. Racist incidents also occur time and again. And it is precisely these that are to be addressed more and more effectively.
Stronger Action Against Hate in the Digital Space
On the occasion of the “International Day Against Hate Speech,” the organizers are sending a clear message against hate speech, intolerance, and discrimination.
The fact that a major soccer club like FC Bayern supports such an initiative is important for making it even more effective.

With the launch of the initiative, targeted measures are being developed to support clubs and associations in dealing with online hate. Exactly what these measures will look like is not yet known at this time. What is clear, however, is that this issue deserves a great deal of attention.
And not just in Germany. Online hate is a major problem in other countries as well. In England in particular—for example, in the Premier League—action is being taken more and more strictly against soccer fans who make offensive comments in the stands or online afterward.
However, the goal is not merely deterrence, but also raising awareness of this issue. That’s why it will be interesting to see what else unfolds in connection with this project.
