FC Bayern Munich is currently in the planning phase—not just for the new season, but for the future in general. This also involves contracts. One important contract has now been officially extended.
As the record champion confirmed in a press release today, Thursday, the contract of José Barcala, head coach of the women’s team, has been extended early through the summer of 2028.
The club in Munich is very pleased with the team’s progress and looks forward to continuing to work with the coach.
Barcala Extends Contract with FC Bayern
The coach joined the Bavarian capital from Swiss first-division club Servette Geneva for the 2025–26 season and immediately enjoyed success, winning the domestic double and delivering some very entertaining matches with his team in the Champions League as well. There, they ultimately reached the semifinals.
„The early contract extension with José Barcala sends a strong signal about our successful collaboration. In his first season, José has impressively demonstrated that he embodies our values and is taking our team to a new level on the field. With him on the sidelines, we want to continue the positive momentum of the past year and keep making steady progress in the future,” explains Bianca Rech, Director of Women’s Soccer at FC Bayern.
She continues: “The most successful season in the history of FC Bayern Women to date shows that José, with his professional expertise, his leadership style, and his great ambition, is the right coach to help us achieve our goals at both the national and international levels in the coming years.”
The head coach himself also had a few words to say. “The early extension of my contract through 2028 means a great deal to me. I’m grateful for the trust the club has placed in me and look forward to what we can continue to build together in the coming years,” Barcala said.
