Alphonso Davies was long considered an indispensable part of FC Bayern’s future plans. But recent reports suggest that the Munich club has significantly changed its stance toward the Canadian. A sale this summer is reportedly no longer off the table.
Just a few months ago, the situation seemed clear-cut. FC Bayern extended Alphonso Davies’ contract long-term, thereby sending a clear signal about the future.
However, the mood at Säbener Straße is said to have changed in the meantime.
As Sport BILD reports, a potential sale of the 25-year-old is being discussed very intensively internally. According to the report, doubts have grown both in the executive suite and within the sporting department as to whether Davies can still fulfill the role originally intended for him in the long term.
Injuries are fueling growing doubts
The main reason apparently lies in his persistent susceptibility to injury.
According to the report, Davies has missed more than a year of playing time in the past two seasons alone due to various injuries. This is a significant factor, especially for a player whose style of play relies heavily on dynamism, explosiveness, and physical presence.
Internally, the realization has reportedly set in that the team can be built to be competitive even without Davies.
Added to this is the fact that Bayern is currently working intensively on signing Nathaniel Brown. The national team player from Eintracht Frankfurt brings a similar athletic profile to the table and could provide additional options on the left side.
Another aspect is the financial side: Davies is among the top earners in the FC Bayern squad. According to media reports, his annual salary is said to range between 15 and 20 million euros.
Given the cost-cutting measures the club has repeatedly emphasized in recent months, it appears that an internal review is underway to determine whether this overall package is still in proportion to his sporting availability.
This is the main reason why a sale is no longer being categorically ruled out.
First interested parties from Saudi Arabia

It is interesting to note that there are apparently already concrete moves in the market.
According to Sport BILD, representatives from several clubs in the Saudi Pro League have reportedly visited Munich to explore the possibilities of a transfer.
For Bayern, such a deal would certainly be financially attractive. Saudi clubs have enormous financial resources and could easily afford transfer fees in the range of 30 to 40 million euros or even more.
Davies himself remains the decisive factor
Whether a transfer is actually realistic, however, depends above all on the player himself.
At 25, Davies is actually in his prime as a soccer player. Furthermore, he remains one of the most renowned fullbacks in world soccer and should, in principle, have the ambition to play at the highest European level.
A move to Saudi Arabia therefore seems rather unlikely at this point. Nevertheless, recent developments show that the perception of Davies at FC Bayern has changed.
