The name John Stones continues to be a talking point around FC Bayern. While Max Eberl recently denied the rumors, the English Daily Mail is now reporting a concrete wish from Vincent Kompany
According to the report, the Bayern coach is said to be personally pushing to bring his former Manchester City teammate to Munich in the summer
Kompany and Stones share a common past at Manchester City, with the current Bayern coach himself having played in the Skyblues‘ defense for years and is therefore very familiar with the Englishman’s qualities
According to the Daily Mail, Kompany sees Stones as an ideal reinforcement for the Munich defense
Particularly attractive: the 31-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, meaning Stones would be available on a free transfer
Stones keeps his future open
The England international himself has recently publicly stated that his future is still completely open. „I have no idea where I’ll be next season,“ Stones said recently
At the same time, the defender made it clear that a new challenge would appeal to him. „There is still a lot in my career that is worth fighting for,“ explained the Englishman
However, FC Bayern are apparently not the only club interested in Stones. In addition to Munich, FC Barcelona and several clubs from England are also said to be interested, including Everton and Premier League promotion contenders Coventry City
Eberl denies Bayern interest

Interesting fact: Head of Sport Max Eberl clearly rejected the recent Stones rumors just a few days ago, stating publicly that the reports were „not true“
At the same time, however, Eberl announced that the squad would undergo selective changes in the summer. „We will take steps again and rebuild the squad without being radical,“ said the 52-year-old
However, it also seems clear that a Stones transfer is unlikely to be realistic without a sale in central defense. With Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim, Hiroki Ito and the prospect of Josip Stanisic, Bayern already have a very broad-based squad
Kim and Ito in particular are considered possible sales candidates internally, even if the Munich club are not actively pushing for their departure at the moment
Should there be any movement there, a transfer of Stones could suddenly become much more interesting
Especially as the Englishman can be deployed not only in central defence, but also as a right-back – a position in which Bayern still see a need for optimization.
