The next tricky personnel decision is looming at FC Bayern and Alphonso Davies is once again at the center of it. The Canadian international is no longer uncontroversial at Säbener Straße. While parts of the sporting management are definitely considering a sale in the summer, head coach Vincent Kompany still has high hopes for the 25-year-old
The different points of view show that the Davies situation is complex – both in sporting and economic terms. According to SPORT1, the left-back is „under observation“ internally. The main reason for this is his susceptibility to injury in recent months. Since tearing his cruciate ligament following his contract extension, Davies has never been able to consistently return to his top form. His body has repeatedly thrown him back, causing him to lose his status as an undisputed regular
Kompany clearly backs Davies
Vincent Kompany takes a completely different view of the situation. The Bayern coach is considered a great supporter of the Canadian and is said to have campaigned vehemently for him to stay ahead of the contract extension in spring 2025. For the Belgian, Davies remains a player with an exceptional profile – above all because of his dynamism, speed and attacking power on the left
This backing from the coaching team could become a decisive factor in the internal power structure, as Kompany continues to plan with Davies in sporting terms – and would be reluctant to see him leave, especially as alternatives at this level are not easy to find
Economic pressure increases willingness to sell

On the other hand, there is the economic perspective. FC Bayern has dug deep into its pockets for the extension. Around €15 million basic salary plus bonuses and a generous hand money make Davies one of the top earners in the squad. In combination with his injury history, there is growing scepticism internally as to whether the overall package is still in proportion to his sporting performance
Added to this is the club’s strained financial situation, which has been a recurring theme of late. Against this backdrop, it seems logical that those responsible are at least open to offers. Manchester United is said to already have a financially strong interested party lined up
As kicker and BILD both report, a sale in the summer is not categorically ruled out should an attractive offer actually arrive
The Davies issue will therefore play a central role at the regular supervisory board meeting at the end of May, where it is likely to be decided whether the Canadian will continue to be an integral part of the club’s future – or whether FC Bayern is truly prepared to part with one of its once key players in the summer.
