The negotiations to extend Alphonso Davies‘ contract at FC Bayern could take a positive turn. After a departure of the speedy left-back seemed only a matter of time, Munich officials are now apparently optimistic that the Canadian will extend his contract with the record champions.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg from Sky reports that the new talks between Davies and Bayern are going well. The Munich club seem to be optimistic again that the 23-year-old will continue to play football in Munich.

Negotiations were recently at an impasse because the discrepancy between the salary demanded by the player and what the German record champions were prepared to pay was too great. Now both sides could come closer again.

The arrival of Vincent Kompany as the new head coach seems to have turned the tide in the ongoing negotiations. Kompany is said to be a fan of Davies and is strongly in favour of him staying. Recently, there have been increasing rumours of a transfer of Theo Hernández to replace the 23-year-old Davies at left-back.

Real’s interest weakened?

Davies quickly established himself as a regular at left-back when he made the big move from Canada to Munich in 2019 at the age of just 17. The Canadian international was one of the absolute top performers, especially in the 2020 treble season. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Despite a rather mixed performance last season, Real Madrid also had him on their radar. A departure seemed only a matter of time. However, there have recently been many indications that the reigning Champions League winners are not pushing for a transfer and are instead hoping for a bargain.

FC Bayern is now endeavouring to find a satisfactory solution with Davies and his management that is fair to both sides. Last season, the speedy Canadian made 42 appearances for Munich, scoring three goals and setting up six others.
