The surprising cancellation by Ralf Rangnick caught those responsible at FC Bayern on the wrong foot. The FCB bosses apparently catered to all of the coach candidate’s wishes during the talks.
FC Bayern apparently did not see the cancellation of coaching candidate Ralf Rangnick coming. According to the Munich newspaper tz, the bosses of the German record champions were „blindsided“ when they were informed of Rangnick’s decision early on Wednesday afternoon.
Until then, there had been much to suggest that the 65-year-old had agreed. According to the report, those responsible at Bayern had taken all his wishes into account during the talks.Supervisory board members Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummeniggeinparticular fought for Rangnick. The current coach of the Austrian national team should have pushed ahead with the planned reorganisation at all levels.
Bayern plan a change in the summer
When the negotiations were still ongoing, it was reported several times that Rangnick wanted far-reaching competences at Bayern, such as a say in transfers and the composition of the squad. Traditionally, this is not the case at FC Bayern – normally, the coach was largely given his squad by the bosses and had to work with the existing players.
Now that the current season has ended without a national title at least, the management at Säbener Straße feels the time has come for a change in the squad. Before Rangnick, the Munich management had already tried in vain to reach an agreement with Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen and national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Following Rangnick’s cancellation, Bayern now have to start looking for a successor to coach Thomas Tuchel all over again. With a win at Real Madrid on Wednesday, the 50-year-old could take his team into the Champions League final.

Gerüchten zufolge ging es um die Kaderplanung. RR soll angeblich dafür plädiert haben Sabitzer zurück zu holen, was der Verein abgelehnt haben soll. Das soll RR gezeigt haben, dass sein erwünschtes und vereinbartes Mitspracherecht doch eher begrenzt sei; was zu seiner faktischen Absage und seinem Verbleib beim ÖFB geführt haben soll.
Ja nee is klar…Und Rangnik hat zudem per Videocall aus Fuschl am See angerufen und ausrichten lassen, dass man sich bei den Brauseherstellern zudem eine Umbenennung der Allianzarene wünsche.
