Would the signing of Ralf Rangnick as coach cost FC Bayern dearly after all? New information about the possible transfer fee suggests so.

FC Bayern’s search for a coach could soon come to an end. A decision on Ralf Rangnick is getting closer and closer. According to consistent media reports, the 65-year-old has received an offer that is ready to be signed.

Whether Rangnick will actually become Thomas Tuchel’s successor from the summer currently hinges on two points. Firstly, the Austrian national coach himself is still hesitating as to whether he should accept the offer.

Secondly, FCB is still facing a transfer poker game. It was initially rumoured that the ÖFB would not put any obstacles in Rangnick’s way if he decided in favour of Bayern. But his contract as national coach runs until 2026.

Nagelsmann transfer fee as a comparison

The record champions had previously assumed a transfer fee in the single-digit million range. According to BILD, they are expecting between €2-3 million. However, this will probably not be enough for the Austrian negotiating partners. According to tz, the ÖFB is planning to pay a sum in the double-digit millions. There have also been reports in Austria recently that the ÖFB will demand at least a double-digit million sum for Rangnick.

This is based on the sum that Bayern paid for Julian Nagelsmann in 2021. munich transferred €15 million to RB Leipzig at the time, which would have been €25 million including possible bonus payments.

So even if Rangnick were to give FCB his approval, the deal would still be a long way from being finalised. Even if both sides are pushing for a quick solution.

Bayern’s honorary president and supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß told the FAZ: „I think we will have a decision within a week.“

ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel expressed a similar view on ORF: „I think it will have to be finalised in a week or two.“

It will definitely be an exciting week or two for FC Bayern.
