FC Bayern’s squad is set for a shake-up in the summer, with sporting director Max Eberl announcing the move himself. Matthijs de Ligt apparently divides opinion within the FCB management.

Matthijs de Ligt is currently having an up-and-down season at FC Bayern. In the first half of the season, he was rarely in the Munich starting eleven – partly due to injury. In the second half of the season, he fought his way back into the first eleven and formed the centre-back duo together with new winter signing Eric Dier in the last few games.

In Bayern’s 3-2 defeat at Heidenheim, however, he and Dier were on the bench, with Dayot Upamecano and Minjae Kim given preference. However, it is possible that De Ligt and Dier were only rested for FCB’s important quarter-final first leg at Arsenal on Tuesday.

In London, Bayern need a real defence boss again. De Ligt was brought in as such from Juventus in the summer of 2022. The transfer fee: an impressive 67 million euros.

More supporters than critics of De Ligt

If Bayern were to make major changes to the defence in the summer, would De Ligt also be a candidate for sale? According to kicker, the Dutchman divides opinion among those in charge. According to the report, however, there are more supporters of the 24-year-old than critics. According to the report, Bayern are not specifically thinking about selling De Ligt as part of the squad reorganisation in the summer.

Nevertheless, De Ligt cannot be satisfied with his second season at the German record champions. The Munich club is threatened with a title-less season. FCB were eliminated early in the DFB Cup against third-division club 1. FC Saarbrücken. In the Bundesliga, they are 16 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The Werkself can clinch the German championship as early as next weekend.

They still have a chance of winning the Champions League. However, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team will have to beat Premier League leaders FC Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
