Amid speculation surrounding the future of the coaching position at FC Bayern Munich, a new potential rival has emerged on the market. According to reports, Juventus are interested in FCB candidate Roberto De Zerbi, the current coach of Brighton & Hove Albion.
Juventus, who are considering Massimiliano Allegri’s future after a disappointing season in Serie A, have apparently turned their attention to De Zerbi. According to British news portal HITC Football, the Italian could play a key role in the Turin club’s plans. This could significantly complicate FC Bayern’s efforts to win over De Zerbi.
Roberto De Zerbi has made a name for himself in recent years as one of the up-and-coming coaches in Europe. His work at Brighton & Hove Albion has caused a stir not only in England but also internationally. His tactical understanding and ability to develop teams have put the 44-year-old on the wish list of many top clubs.
Bayern aim to regain Bundesliga dominance
Now that Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen have decided to continue their partnership, FC Bayern appear to be focussing more on De Zerbi. The Italian is said to be high up on the Bayern bosses‘ list of favourites. Sports director Max Eberl in particular is said to be an admirer of the Italian’s work. In addition to the Brighton & Hove Albion coach, a comeback by Julian Nagelsmann is also considered a possible option for the Bayern bosses.
The decision on FC Bayern’s next coach is an important building block for the future of the German record champions. Not only the restoration of dominance in the Bundesliga is at stake, but also the shaping of a team that can once again characterise a successful era in Munich. Eberl emphasised the importance of a careful decision, which should ideally be made in April. But with Juventus in the race for De Zerbi, Bayern could be forced to adapt their strategy.
