The current situation in the Bundesliga table speaks for itself and even the players of FC Bayern Munich cannot help but recognise the superiority of Bayer Leverkusen. In an occasionally weak season for Munich and especially after the disappointing results against direct rivals such as BVB, Thomas Müller has now commented on the record champions‘ situation.
In his fan newsletter, Thomas Müller spoke of a disappointing performance against Dortmund and paid tribute to Bayer Leverkusen’s performance. „The situation in the table doesn’t leave much room for speculation. Leverkusen didn’t show any weakness and we didn’t deliver. The disappointing performance against BVB and Leverkusen’s last-minute win unfortunately fit into this picture once again,“ said Müller. The Bayern player expressed his frustration at the missed opportunities and the team’s infrequent performance, but at the same time emphasised Leverkusen’s run of success. „To be unbeaten at this point in the season is really strong. My congratulations on this run of success,“ emphasised the 34-year-old.
While coach Thomas Tuchel’s congratulations to Leverkusen after the defeat to Dortmund had already caused Bayern bosses to frown, Müller’s statement seems to go in a similar direction: „So the championship probably goes to Leverkusen. I’m frustrated that we didn’t put in a better performance and were rarely able to show our potential.“
Müller now wants to „spoon up the soup“
At the same time, however, he also holds the team accountable. „At FCB, we now have to spoon up the soup that we’ve made for ourselves,“ said the veteran. Bayern now face a test of character.
The gap to Leverkusen is now 13 points and the championship battle appears to be decided. Nevertheless, the team is still challenged to secure second place in the remaining Bundesliga games and end the season in style. However, the focus now shifts to the Champions League, where a difficult hurdle awaits in the form of FC Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
