Manuel Neuer’s contract with FC Bayern expires in the summer of 2025. Will the goalkeeper then end his career? The FCB managers are apparently already preparing for this scenario in the background.

FC Bayern are apparently already thinking about a time after Manuel Neuer. According to Sport BILD, the club is exploring alternatives in the background.

Sven Ulreich told the newspaper about Bayern’s search for a successor to Neuer: „It’s almost impossible to replace a goalkeeper like Manuel. He’s a legend, an extremely strong goalkeeper. But at some point there will be someone to fill his shoes.“

Long-term contract for Nübel?

One logical candidate could be Alexander Nübel. The keeper is currently on loan to VfB Stuttgart and is on course for the Champions League. According to the report, sporting director Christoph Freund and sporting director Max Eberl are in contact with him.

The bosses still believe that Nübel could be Neuer’s successor. Bayern want to offer Nübel – whose current contract, like Neuer’s, runs until 2025 – a new four or five-year contract and then loan him out to Stuttgart for at least another year to play in the Champions League and continue his development.

But there are also other interested parties for Nübel: Newcastle United and AS Roma recently enquired about the goalkeeper.

Bayern also have Costa and Maignan in their sights

According to Sport BILD, Bayern are also looking abroad for goalkeepers. Diogo Costa from FC Porto and Mike Maignan from AC Milan are at the top of the list, according to the report. Both would therefore be a „statement signing“ for Bayern. Costa and Maignan have proven their qualities at the highest level, but both would also be very expensive.

Another name on the list, according to the report, is Brighton’s Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. Bayern are reportedly keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, who last made a strong save for Elftal in their 2-1 defeat to Germany.

Meanwhile, Bayern bosses are satisfied with the development and training performances of Daniel Peretz, who is currently number three goalkeeper. Nevertheless, he is set to leave the club on loan in the summer in order to gain match practice at the highest level. The Israeli international keeper may then be able to recommend himself as a potential successor to Neuer.
