Bayern loanee Alexander Nübel is playing an outstanding season with VfB Stuttgart. The Swabians would like to loan the goalkeeper out for another season. However, clubs from other European countries are also keeping an eye on Nübel.

VfB Stuttgart are currently in a sensational third place in the Bundesliga and therefore have a realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League. A player on loan from FC Bayern has played a not inconsiderable part in this: Alexander Nübel has proved to be a reliable centre-back this season and is currently one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

Stuttgart would therefore like to keep the 27-year-old. However, Nübel, who was originally signed as Neuer’s successor, is attracting interest from abroad thanks to his strong performances.

Will Nübel extend his contract at FC Bayern?

Meanwhile, FCB’s plan seems to be clear. They would prefer to extend Nübel’s contract, which expires in 2025, and then loan him out to VfB Stuttgart again. Bayern’s goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner recently confirmed this: „I believe that it would make perfect sense for everyone involved if he stayed at VfB, if we could continue this form of collaboration.“

However, should Nübel not want to extend his contract, Bayern bosses are likely to be looking to sell him next summer. Munich definitely want to prevent a transfer-free departure. It is also considered out of the question that Nübel will once again take on the role of number two behind Manuel Neuer.

Rome and Lisbon interested in Nübel

As reported by Sky, the price for Nübel next summer is between 13 and 15 million euros. A sum that makes a permanent move to Stuttgart seem unlikely – even in the event of a possible Champions League appearance.

According to the report, a number of clubs from abroad are also keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding Nübel. It was recently reported that Sporting Lisbon are keen to sign the former Schalke player next summer.

According to Sky, AS Roma are now also said to be interested in signing Nübel. The contract of long-serving regular keeper Rui Patricio expires at the end of the season. The Portuguese was recently demoted to number two. Nübel is apparently seen as the ideal successor to Patricio by those responsible at Roma.
