There is no end to the speculation surrounding Matthijs de Ligt’s future at FC Bayern Munich. But the Dutchman himself is unimpressed by the rumours and reaffirms his loyalty to the record champions.

According to Matthijs de Ligt, there is no reason to believe that he and Jamal Musiala could leave FC Bayern Munich. „Me and Musiala leaving Bayern? Where should we go, on holiday?“ joked the centre-back in an interview with the Dutch portal Voetbal International. He added: „But no, I don’t think so. I hope for us and for Bayern that we both stay. I assume that too.“

De Ligt is relaxed about the transfer speculation and puts it down to the high expectations placed on him from outside. „If I don’t play, the impression is immediately created that I’m unhappy and want to leave,“ he explained. Despite occasional appearances on the bench, De Ligt remains steadfast: „I really have no reason to complain. I’m still having a great time at Bayern Munich and have been playing in every game again recently.“

De Ligt is „getting fitter and better“

After struggling with injuries on several occasions, De Ligt has fought his way back into the team’s starting eleven in the second half of the season and forms the club’s centre-back duo alongside Eric Dier. „I’ve started ten of the last twelve games. And I feel that I’m getting fitter and better, which is a good feeling,“ said De Ligt. The Dutch centre-back’s contract at FC Bayern runs until the summer of 2027.

The Dutchman emphasises the strength of Bayern’s squad, which is packed with top players who are all ready to take their chance. „If you’re out with an injury and you’re fit again, it’s not a given that you’ll be back in the starting eleven straight away,“ he explains. For De Ligt, patience and tenacity are the keys to success in a team that offers no guarantee of a regular place, even with good results.
