Due to the impending departure of Alphonso Davies in the summer, Bayern are currently scouring the transfer market in search of a new left-back. According to the latest reports, BVB professional Ian Maatsen could be a hot candidate for the German record champions.

There are increasing signs that Alphonso Davies will leave FC Bayern at the end of the season. As reported by Sky, the Munich club have submitted a contract offer to the 23-year-old that is ready to be signed and want a final decision from the player’s side in the course of this week.

The problem: the club and player are still too far apart in terms of salary. FCB are said to be offering 13-14 million euros, while Davies is reportedly demanding around 20 million euros. If the deal is not extended, Bayern would like to sell the Canadian in the summer for as much profit as possible.

Maatsen moves into Bayern’s focus

FC Bayern have already found a successor to Alphonso Davies in Theo Hernandez. The Frenchman is currently under contract with AC Milan and is considered to be Munich’s preferred solution.

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, the German record champions have a new candidate on their list for the left-back position in the shape of Ian Maatsen. The Chelsea FC professional is currently on loan to Borussia Dortmund and has performed strongly for BVB in recent months. There have been no concrete talks between Maatsen and Bayern so far. However, Bayern are monitoring the young Dutchman’s situation very closely.

It is also interesting to note that although BVB have secured a purchase option in the summer worth between €35m and €40m, they are unlikely to exercise it. According to Sky, such a transfer would be difficult for the Black & Yellows to manage. For FC Bayern, on the other hand, this would not be a problem, especially if the sale of Davies would generate corresponding income.
