Max Eberl has a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and months. In addition to the search for a new coach, the squad planning for the coming years needs to be driven forward. This is because a whole series of contract negotiations with important players of the German record champions are pending.

From day one, Max Eberl has had his hands full at FC Bayern. The search for a coach to take over the team in the summer of 2024 is currently the top priority. According to Eberl, whoever takes over from Tuchel will be involved in the squad planning for the coming season. The aim is to find players who „suit the coach and the club.“

However, the new coach will not only have a say in potential new signings. The future of several Bayern stars is also likely to depend on the future coach’s personnel plans.

Marathon negotiations for Eberl and Co.

A total of 15 players at FC Bayern have a contract that only runs until 2026 or less. As many of these players have a high market value and transfer-free departures are to be avoided at all costs, the future of these players must be clarified in the coming months.

As Eberl confirmed, contract negotiations have already begun with a number of players. These include Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich, whose contracts each run until the summer of 2025. The two Bayern stars have been repeatedly linked with a Bayern departure in the past and, according to recent media reports, are not considered unsellable.

Who has to leave FC Bayern?

According to reports, the contracts of Bouna Sarr and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, which expire next summer, will not be extended – both are expected to leave FCB on a free transfer.

The contracts of several players who have been linked with a Bayern departure for some time now run until 2026. These include Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry and Noussair Mazraoui. Now that Dayot Upamecano has lost his starting place for the time being, he could also become a candidate for sale.

By contrast, a move for Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer seems unthinkable – their physical condition is more likely to be the deciding factor in how long the two legends will remain in Bayern colours. Their contracts run until 2025, as do those of Eric Dier, Raphael Guerreiro and Sven Ulreich.
