FC Bayern’s results crisis seems to have been overcome for the time being after three wins in a row. Against Lazio Rome, Mainz 05 and Darmstadt 98, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team was able to recharge its batteries. Now supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warns against overestimating the record champions‘ winning streak.

Rummenigge told the BILD newspaper: „We should approach this development in a relaxed and serious manner. We played against Lazio – not a top team in Europe at the moment.“

„We won 8:1 against the sixteenth-placed team in the Bundesliga and now 5:2 against the team bottom of the table in Darmstadt. We shouldn’t switch from lethargy to euphoria now,“ said the 68-year-old.

Rummenigge also expects more stability in the results at last and urged consistency: „We haven’t been that for large parts of the season so far. We have to take our best form into the two big games that await us against Arsenal.“

The two-time Ballon d’Or winner praised the upcoming opponents: „We shouldn’t look back to the past, when we often knocked them out. It’s one of the toughest draws we could make.“

FC Bayern: Good experience with Arsenal London

The record champions have already had good experiences with FC Arsenal in the past: In the 2016/17 season, the two teams already met in the last 16 of the Champions League. Bayern won both the first leg and the return leg with a clear 5:1 victory.

However, the record champions will be up against a better Arsenal than back then. Coach Mikel Arteta’s team are currently top of the Premier League table and have won nine of their last ten games. In the round of 16, the Gunners beat FC Porto 4:2 on penalties after losing the first leg.
