Manuel Neuer has been in outstanding form in recent months. The 37-year-old is about to return to the DFB goal. According to the latest reports, the Bayern professional will also be Germany’s number 1 at the European Championships.

Manuel Neuer will be the German national team’s number 1 goalkeeper at the upcoming European Championships at home this summer. As reported by Sportbuzzer, Julian Nagelsmann has made his final decision and has decided in favour of Neuer and against Marc Andre ter-Stegen. The FC Barcelona goalkeeper will therefore once again start the tournament as number 2.

At the squad announcement last week, Nagelsmann was still reserved when asked about the goalkeeper position: „We’ll have a discussion with both of them, I’m not anticipating anything. The players come first, then the media. I have a goalkeeping coach who has his opinion, his arguments, who also has a much better overview than I do. We’ll have the talks and then decide what approach we’ll take for the two games.“

According to Sportbuzzer, the announced individual talks with the two goalkeepers have taken place in recent days and a decision has been made in favour of Neuer. There has not yet been an official statement on the matter.

Neuer celebrates his DFB comeback after a break of over a year

Neuer played his last international match on 1 December in the 4:2 win against Costa Rica at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Shortly after Germany’s preliminary round exit, Neuer suffered a fractured lower leg and was out for almost a year. The five-time world goalkeeper celebrated his comeback at FC Bayern in October 2023 and has been in impressive form in recent months.

After the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups and the 2012, 2016 and 2021 European Championships, Euro 2024 will be the FC Bayern professional’s eighth major tournament as a DFB regular goalkeeper. Neuer has made 117 appearances in the German goal so far.
