Following the departure of Thomas Tuchel in the summer, FC Bayern is still looking for a coach. Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has been the top candidate for several weeks. However, two German experts are expressing their doubts about the switch from the Werkself to the record champions.

On Sky, Felix Magath and Dietmar Hamann criticised FC Bayern’s possible collaboration with coach Xabi Alonso.

However, Magath initially praised Alonso for his intelligence on and off the pitch. „I think he is not only a very intelligent footballer, but also a very intelligent person,“ said Magath.

The two-time FC Bayern double winner concludes that the 42-year-old will remain in Leverkusen. Magath describes the difference between his current role and the one in Munich as „a different world“.

Furthermore, the 70-year-old does not believe it is likely that Bayern will give him the room for manoeuvre that he currently enjoys in Leverkusen. When asked whether Bayern would make concessions for Alonso, Magath just had to laugh: „That would be something new at Bayern, I would be delighted,“ explained Magath with a smile on his face.

Alonso’s retention as a sign of gratitude

Dietmar Hamann also commented on the speculation and believes it is very unlikely, if not impossible, that Alonso will leave Bayer 04. „I think it’s almost impossible that the clubs don’t know what’s going on and I’m strongly inclined to think he’ll stay,“ Hamann said.

The former midfielder also assumes that the Spaniard owes something to those responsible at Leverkusen. After all, they were the ones who gave him a chance in the big football business. Hamann is firmly convinced that Alonso will also be grateful and will prove this in the future: „The way I got to know him, he hasn’t forgotten that,“ the former Bayern professional continued.

The Sky pundit therefore does not believe in a move to Liverpool FC in England. Alonso currently leads the table with Leverkusen, ten points ahead of Bayern.
