FC Bayern have made a statement by extending Mathys Tel’s contract. Previously, there were rumours that the youngster was thinking of leaving. New information makes it clear how much there was to this speculation.

It is regarded as the first official act of the new sporting director Max Eberl. FC Bayern has tied down storm jewel Mathys Tel for the long term. On Wednesday, the record champions announced the official extension of his contract until 2029.

Speculation surrounding a move for the 18-year-old has thus been finally put to rest. These rumours had arisen because the top talent’s playing time under coach Thomas Tuchel had been limited.

Despite scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 31 competitive matches, Tel never made it into FC Bayern’s starting eleven in the Bundesliga until the game in Freiburg. In the meantime, the Frenchman has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Tel identifies with Munich

However, as kicker now reports, there was never any truth to the speculation surrounding Tel. He feels far too comfortable in Munich. Tel is said to „completely identify“ with the club, the Bavarian culture and the city. He has also been busy learning German since joining Bayern.

In FC Bayern’s official press release, Tel also reaffirmed his close ties to the club and the city of Munich.

„This contract extension means a lot to me. I’ve already learnt a lot at FC Bayern – on and off the pitch. Munich has become a home for me and my family, and the fans are also very important to me: I can’t be the player I am without them,“ said Tel.

Bayern fans will therefore have a lot to enjoy with Tel in the coming years. Eberl is certain of that: „He is an important building block for the future of this team, with him we already have the next generation of FC Bayern in our squad. He will make a big impression – here at FC Bayern.“
