Rummenigge: „Leverkusen would have deserved the championship“

After eleven championship titles in a row, there are many indications that Bayer Leverkusen will put an end to FC Bayern’s streak this season. From the point of view of FCB supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Xabi Alonso’s team deserves this success.

Bayer Leverkusen are ten points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. The Werkself remain undefeated and continue their unstoppable march through the German top flight. Even if Leverkusen can still be caught in the coming weeks in purely mathematical terms, there is currently nothing to suggest a sudden drop in Bayer’s performance.

Even Bayern supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge assumes that Leverkusen will win the race. For the 68-year-old, it would ultimately be an absolutely deserved success: „Leverkusen will probably win now and they deserve it because they not only play successful, but also attractive football,“ he explained on the Tomorrow Business & Style podcast.

„Have to accept defeat with style“

Interestingly, according to Rummenigge, Bayern’s failure would not be as bad as many people think: „Everyone in Germany is celebrating now because they tried for eleven years but couldn’t win the title. If Bayer Leverkusen win the title in the end, I don’t think it would be dramatic for FC Bayern.“

It is much more important that Bayern „accept defeat with style“. The end of the historic series should be seen much more as an incentive and motivation: „We now have to work hard and get better in order to win it again in the next few years – so that the people who are celebrating now have no reason to celebrate,“ said Rummenigge.
