The speculation surrounding FC Barcelona and Joshua Kimmich continues. Now a Dutchman is being brought into play to realise the transfer.

FC Barcelona have been interested in Joshua Kimmich for some time. The prospect of Hansi Flick as the new Barca coach now makes a transfer of the Bayern star more likely.

Flick is currently one of the hot candidates to succeed Xavi, who will step down from his position at the Catalan club in the summer. The former national team coach himself recently admitted that a job abroad would really appeal to him.

According to the Catalan online newspaper El Nacional, Flick wants to recruit Kimmich as a new player if an agreement is reached with Barca.

The transfer would be made possible by the sale of Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder is one of Barca’s big earners and his contract runs until 2026.

The 26-year-old was supposed to be sold two years ago. At the time, however, de Jong successfully resisted a move to Manchester United.

Bayern price tag for Kimmich

However, there will be no other way for FC Barcelona, who are still suffering from financial problems, to buy Kimmich. According to BILD, Bayern have put a price tag of 50 million euros on Kimmich.

Flick and Kimmich are known to hold each other in high regard. Under the former national team coach, Kimmich matured into an absolute leading player at Bayern. Under Thomas Tuchel, however, the 29-year-old has increasingly lost influence this season.

This is another reason why Bayern are no longer ruling out the possibility of selling the international. New sporting director Max Eberl recently left Kimmich’s future at Bayern open: „When we look at the squad, we look at every player. His contract also runs until 2025, but we will also take his opinion into account. We will hold talks on that.“

In addition to FC Barcelona, there are other international interested parties. Manchester United are also said to be considering signing Kimmich.
