Just a few weeks ago, reports were doing the rounds that Lucas Hernandez was on the verge of extending his contract with FC Bayern. It has now been announced that the Frenchman’s planned extension is on hold at the record champion.

At the beginning of the year, several media outlets reported that the talks between Bayern and Hernandez were in the home stretch. According to these reports, the club and the player were close to reaching an agreement. The signing of a new contract seemed to be a mere formality.

However, as „kicker“ now reports in a completely surprising manner, nothing has happened in recent weeks regarding Hernandez’s extension at Säbener Straße.

Bayern want to get Tuchel’s opinion

According to „kicker“ reporter Georg Holzner, the contract talks are dragging on. According to this, nothing „concrete has happened“ recently. This could possibly be because the Bayern bosses want to get Thomas Tuchel’s opinion on the defender. According to information from kicker, the squad planning for the new season will be discussed with Tuchel at Säbener Straße in the foreseeable future. Lucas Hernandez will also be discussed.

The 27-year-old tore his cruciate ligament at the World Cup in Qatar and is currently working hard on his comeback. The defensive all-rounder is still contractually bound to the FCB until 2024. If no agreement is reached on an extension by the summer, Bayern may be threatened with a transfer-free departure in just under 12 months – as was recently the case with David Alaba and Niklas Süle.
